Mawlynnong-The Cleanest Village of India

Mawlynnong is the Asia's cleanest village of India. In the tiny hamlet of North east Mawlynnong  located in east khasi district of Meghalaya.
Mawlynnong is famous for its cleanness and  the village has already accoladed with  Cleanest village tag.

In the village , the use of plastics and smoking are banned .And the waste of the village is collected in the dustbins made of bamboo. In the village to keep the roads clean the volunteers sweep the streets at regular intervals.
The majority of the population of the village is from Khasi tribe.
Mawlynnong  hygiene concern has raised from the past incident  when cholera struck the village near about 130 years ago.With no cure to find the villagers opt for cleanness programme to stop the spreading of diseases. As there is hard to find any medical assistance so as  prevention of the spread of disease the cleanliness was seen  as vital cure.
Mawlynnong is hailed for its exceptional cleanness.
