Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current

What is the issue? Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current (AMOC) is thought to be slowing down for the last 15 years, which could have drastic consequences on global climate. But new study suggests that AMOC is getting help from the Indian Ocean. What is an AMOC? Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current is the large system of ocean currents operating in the Atlantic Ocean which circulates the waters between the north and the south. It ensures the oceans are continually mixed, and heat and energy are distributed around Earth. Warming as a result of climate change, the Indian Ocean is causing a series of cascading effects. How AMOC works? As warm water flows northwards in the Atlantic, it cools, while the evaporation increases its salt content. The cold, dense water deep below slowly spreads southward. Eventually, it gets pulled back to the surface and warms again and, the circulation is complete. This continual mixing of the oceans, and distribution of heat and ener

Chandrayaan 2-Conclusive

Chandrayaan-2, a follow-on mission to the Chandrayaan-1 mission undertaken more than a decade ago, comprises an orbiter, lander (Vikram) and rover (Pragyan). The 2379-kg orbiter, with designed mission life of one year, carries eight scientific payloads for mapping the lunar surface and study the exosphere (outer atmosphere) of the Moon. The orbiter payloads will conduct remote-sensing observations from a 100 km orbit. According to ISRO, the lander carried three scientific payloads to conduct surface and subsurface science experiments, while the rover carried two payloads to enhance our understanding of the lunar surface. There could be any number of reasons, including sensor failure, on-board software anomaly and thrust deviation, for the loss of communication. Earlier in the day, contact from the lander to the ground stations was lost during its powered descent to the Lunar surface minutes before the planned touch-down. “Vikram lander descent was as p

India launches World's First ever Facial Biometric Data Based Sea Fearer Identity

India has become the first country in the world to issue Biometric Seafarer Identity Document (BSID), capturing the facial bio-metric data of seafarers. The new facial biometric technology is a marked improvement over the two finger or iris based bio-metric data. It will make the identification of the Biometric Seafarer Identity Document holder more reliable and efficient, while protecting their privacy. This will  evident in the growing number of Indian seafarers in the international shipping industry. This will give a fool proof identification to our seafarers which will facilitate their movement, provide ease of getting jobs and help in identifying them from any location in the world. The new card is in confirmation of the Convention No. 185 of the International Labour Organisation on BSID. Markets have reacted to weak auto sales data, lower than exp ..
